MP3s Are Not the Devil

MP3s Are Not the Devil take on the MP3 sharing debate, some interesting points here; especially about the fears of new technical innovations by the studios/record companies, which when accepted, create HUGE revenue streams. I think the debate about "lost sales" (the article is about far more than just this) needs to be examined sensibly, "lost sales" are due as much to the output of the record companies as they are to fact that people are sharing near perfect copies on the internet. If I thought there were 10 CDs worth buying last year, that doesn't mean that I'll think that there are 10 CDs worth buying next week. Especially if the (mainstream) record companies do not keep up with my tastes. And there is no way that those people who are downloading hundreds of MP3s each month were buying an equivalent number of CDs, two or three years ago, they are simply supplementing their music experience and in doing so increasing their exposure to new (and hopefully) different music, which can only be a good thing.

The Power of TXT

Looks like technology has struck another blow to Hollywood this summer, but it's not those pesky P2P kids sharing DivX movies, its mobile phone users send txts to their friends warning them that the lastest summer blockbuster is not all its cracked up to be. The essential information is that the "drop-off" which occurs as people hear the truth behind the hype is increasing to such an extent that there it has even become noticable between Friday and Saturday nights. Great! Technology helping to stop me going to see another crap movie. So txt your friends about those bad movies once you've seen them or even better while your still in the cinema! Power to the people - brought to you by TXT!

Scottish Open

Well the Scottish Open finished yesterday in the blazing sun, after some wet but warm weather throughout the rest of the tournament. No need to mention that Ernie Els goes to the Open on Thursday with a cost to victory. While the player heading to the Open left for Sandwich or home last night and today - i've been enjoying the tempramental Scottish weather and fine whisky, another day here and then I'll be joining them. The only wish I have at this point is that the Monkey would get off my back and let me go to golf tournaments as a living, because just watch doesn't seem to pay the bills ;)

What makes a good Blog?

Glenn Reynolds has alot to say about what make a good Blog and discuss all the various types out in Blog-space. Glad to see that the examples he use are first rate and that you don't have to be the best write or have the weirdest link - it's about 'Personal Voice' and linking to the source. - Knew I needed something, a 'Personal Voice' would be nice for Christmas.
